Our Weeks

At MWIS music weeks we meet primarily to sing in choir. Over a few days we rehearse a repertoire that is performed at the end of the week in a nearby church. In order to have time to learn what can be an ambitious program, we mainly turn to experienced choir singers with good music reading skills. Accommodation is always full board; in the summer at a "folkhögskola" with good opportunities for single rooms and in the winter in a rural, picturesque environment.

During free moments during the day, participants usually form different groups to play instruments or sing together, more or less for fun, which results in appreciated performances at our daily soirée. The soirées, which together with our "night café" end the evenings, provide opportunities for pleasant socializing and contribute greatly to the special atmosphere of the weeks.

The Summer Week

is usually last week of July at Fridhems "folkhögskola" in Svalöv in Skåne. The week is highly adapted for families with children, with special activities for children of all ages. We have rhythm, theater and choral singing activities for children between 4 and 12-13 years old. Teenagers are welcome to sing in the "big" choir together with the adults. The children's and youth choir participate in the final concert with their own program item and this part of our activities can be seen as a "choir school", which gives new generations the opportunity to find choral singing and ensures that the tradition is carried forward. During the summer week we can have between 120-150 participants of all ages. In addition, we traditionally have a barbecue evening on Wednesday when guests are welcome. These are often participants from previous weeks or family members who want to come and feel the atmosphere. On the last evening, after the concert in Lund Cathedral, we end the week with a real festive dinner and dancing to our own orchestra.

The Winter Week

is held Dec 28-Jan 4 at Snöå bruk in southern Dalarna. The format is somewhat smaller and more intimate than in the summer and the week has no children's activities. We usually have about 70 singing participants and the week offers a nice New Year's celebration with a big party. The stroke of midnight itself is celebrated with an atmospheric and calm ceremony, with beautiful music and space for your own thoughts. The beautiful surroundings offer wonderful nature experiences and in winter weather there is the opportunity for both cross-country skating and skiing. The concert is held in Järna church and the winter week also ends with a party with good food and drinks. On New Year's Eve, as well as at the concert party, we welcome guests, who are usually family members or participants in previous weeks.
